No More Blurred Lines…
The Lines Have Been Defined! Pharrell and Robin “Got To Give It Up”
After much confusion and an intense legal battle between The Gaye Family and the “Blurred Lines” writing and producing team, Robin Thicke and Pharell Williams, the jury has decided in favor of the Gaye Family, in a settlement of $7.3 million Dollars.
Gaye’s children sued the duo, stating that the song infringed on their Father’s copyrights. Although Thicke and Williams stated that it was mere coincidence, it was not inspired by the work of the late, Marvin Gaye.
After a week of listening to the arrangement and testimonies, a jury of 8 decided that the similarities between “Blurred Lines” and Marvin Gaye’s classic 1977 hit “Got To Give It Up” were too obvious to ignore.
Marvin Gaye’s daughter, Nona finally found peace after the decision:
“Right now, I feel free,” she said after the verdict, the AP reported. “Free from… Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke’s chains and what they tried to keep on us and the lies that were told.”
